I had the same problem. I got the rpm from redhat (you have to go to
an old distribution, 5.2 I think) and converted it to a .deb, then
installed it. This was after messing around for a week trying to find
a .deb package (source or binary) that would actually work.
The converted rpm should install with no problem (although it depends
on a couple of older libraries, which should still be available from
the usual places, (in other words, dselect should find them))
Could be someone else has a better solution?
