i had the same problem 

my XF86Config looks like this:

Section Keyboard
    XkbRules    "sun"
    XkbModel    "type5"
    XkbLayout   "us"
#   XkbVariant  ""
#   XkbOptions  ""


    XkbKeymap "type5"

mouse protocol "sun"


and i made my /dev/mouse with

#mknod /dev/mouse c 10 6
