You can't catch the output because it's not printing to stdout or sterr (it's
what I call standard kernel). Syslog catches it in /var/log/messages. If your
system doesn't have to be rebooted after such a horrible incident (which I
doubt very much after playing with lots of scsi), you can use mesg or
/var/log/dmesg.
