Thanks for helping, but I must be doing something else wrong.
Ok. I now have a file called /boot/System.map-2.2.14 and a file called /vmlinux
which i built using kernel-source-2.2.14.tar.bz2 and I still get the message.
I have typed silo at the command line and rebooted as well.
