Debian 2.1 on sparc clone (compstation ii)

is there an easy way to make a disk bootable on sun hardware? i took a 4g
scsi disk that was not in use and dropped it in my sun
box here at work. after installing debian, i couldn't boot. i thought
that since i went through fdisk and deleted/re-created the partitions,
that everything would work.

however, i guess there is some specific partition/formatting that
must be written to the drive. as this drive was previosly in a PC,
i figured it was missing that information. i searched for docs to
find a way make this disk useable on the sun. after finding nothing
that would help, i started installing solaris 7 as i remember it did
some type of "init" to the drive. i bailed out of the install after format
and re-installed slink. at that point everything was happy.

is there a way (out of bios maybe) to init a new drive? i can't imagine
that you would have to start installing solaris just to get a drive "ready"
to install linux.

is this already documented and i just missed it?

thanks,

 - wayne
