Good call. Stopping nscd fixed apt's problems. (I also noticed sendmail
wasn't running, whoops..)

Disabling nscd's hosts cache in /etc/nscd allowed apt and sendmail to
function normally while nscd is running.

Should this be reported as a nscd bug?
