It was just this program, specifically the configure program in the
ddd subdirectory:
configure:1469: checking whether the C++ compiler (c++ ) works
configure:1483: c++ -o conftest conftest.C 1>&5
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so: undefined reference to `__find_first_exception_table_match'
/usr/lib/libstdc++.so: undefined reference to `__register_exceptions'
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status
configure: failed program was:
#line 1479 "configure"
#include "confdefs.h"
main(){return(0);}
