Re: Debian Science BOF in Debconf 25?

Dear Debian Science/Med Community,

We had a very successful Debian Science BoF! Thanks to all who
participated this time and hope to see more of you next time!

The videos are available here:

https://mirror.netcologne.de/debian-video/2025/DebConf25/debconf25-606-debian-science-team-bof.av1.webm
https://mirror.netcologne.de/debian-video/2025/DebConf25/debconf25-606-debian-science-team-bof.lq.webm

There is a short summary:

===========
The Debian Science BoF at DebConf25 gathered contributors from academia,
industry, Debian Med, Debian Astro, GPU computing, CERN, AMD, and general QA.

Key points:

* Status: >1000 packages maintained; stable and collaborative team;
              recent updates include VTK 9 and ParaView.
* Challenges: Improve coordination on transitions (e.g., OpenMPI),
              ensure CI is green or disabled, and upstream Debian patches
              where possible.
* Opportunities: Use openQA for GUI testing, expand Debian’s presence
              in Docker/Singularity, and collaborate with
              PyPI/WheelNext for shared library usage.
* Community: Keep team membership permissive, promote outreach at
              conferences/universities, and run joint sprints with Debian Med.
* Actions: Audit CI status, identify GUI test candidates, maintain
              list of missing software, and plan a 2026 Debian Science Sprint.
==========

Best regards

Anton
