Science-supporting Crypto Currency - an issue for Debian Science?
Hello,
I discovered Gridcoins for me (https://www.gridcoin.us). They have a
package for Ubuntu and I have toyed with the thought to bring their
wallet also to Debian - too busy, have instead created an Ubuntu
instance with some cloud provider. And it works. It works nicely. So
nicely, that I want it to succeed also more in our daily routines and
also for less technical people who this way can contribute to the sciences.
I know there is https://salsa.debian.org/cryptocoin-team/ and any Debian
package for the Gridcoin wallet should likely go there - but is there
any opinion of my listmates about it? There are other interesting
presumed science-relevant technologies emerging like the Golem Network
(https://golem.network/) that would compete for resources. Is this all
anything the Debian Science should somehow support or otherwise position
itself? I personally see this all as valuable since this allows for
collaborations to perform community sciences with more complicated and
resource-demanding workflows than what would fit on single
computers/local clusters and what should be discussed by many
contributing brains.
Cheers,
Steffen
