i didn't get it, but i've figured out i've been subscribed to the
debian-science-maintainers list, rather than debian-science. so that's
one mystery solved so far. i should be on the right list now.

ok, i will look into this.

is there a policy document somewhere which describes this? i generally
work through the /debian med group policy document/[1], but i don't
think it mentions it.
