I saw bist before, but did not find a compelling reason to package it on
top of chemtool, xdrawchem, gchempaint and bkchem.
If you have a minute, maybe take a look at bkchem if you have not
already (http://bkchem.zirael.org/index.html) and see whether it fits
your need maybe.
Otherwise, you are welcome to join the debichem team and maintain it
with us! Debian-science is the wrong place IMO as it focuses on fields
of endeavour for which no dedicated team exists (yet).
