Re: Geant4 8.2 packages ready

Hi Kevin:

Just for grins, I decided to try building it on powerpc (I also have sparc and mips but I think that it would be unbearably slow so I am not going to try unless someone really wants it!). Unfortunately the version of clhep2 for powerpc was not up to date enough (2.0.2.3) for the dependencies on Geant4 so I had to build those too and stash them on a repository of mine for the pbuilder to get them.

Anyway, the build has churned overnight and is now finished. I have put the resulting packages on my repository for you to grab them:

http://fermi.phys.iit.edu/debian/sid/binary/

I could also compile them for etch if you think that they would be any different. What about sarge, will they even compile? Ubuntu variants also possible too, just ask and be patient since the machine is not terribly fast.

Once you get them, I can remove them, especially since I don't think I really should put the clhep2 debs there.

Please let me know.

Hi list,

Geant4 release 8.2 Debian packages are now ready for Sarge/i386,
Sid/amd64 and Sid/i386. (The packages for Sid should also work on Etch.)

The packages are here:

deb http://borex.princeton.edu/~kmccarty/ unstable geant4
deb-src http://borex.princeton.edu/~kmccarty/ unstable geant4

(substitute "stable" for "unstable" on Sarge)

As always, see http://wiki.debian.org/DebianScienceGeant4 for more
information.

If anyone would like to contribute powerpc (or other arch) builds of
clhep2 and geant4, that would be quite welcome. Source packages of the
needed versions may be obtained here:

http://borex.princeton.edu/~kmccarty/dists/sid/geant4-8.2/source/

(please take care to obtain geant4 .diff.gz and .dsc files for version
4.8.2-*2*)

Notable packaging changes since Geant4 8.1.p02 include:

* Updates to some optional data sets and corresponding fixes to the
Debian-specific install-geant4-data script
* Shared library package of hadronic physics lists now provided (Note
that upstream now builds all the hadronic physics lists into two large
libraries named libG4phys_lists and libG4phys_builders, instead of the
previous several different libraries)
* Minor improvements to the "g4run" Debian-specific script
* Bug fix for invocations of m4 in the debian/rules build

Upstream's release notes for this version are here:

best regards,
