The bug is actually in the dbfwrite and dbfread functions in the octave-io package, which are used in the unit test of function shapewrite of the octave-mapping package, whose failure is shown above.

I filed a bug report in the upstream bug tracker, regarding this issue: https://savannah.gnu.org/bugs/index.php?58457

I will patch the octave-io package, in order to fix the problem.
