It seems you started the installation with kernel 2.4.7 from boot-floppies
3.0.17 but then you downloaded the rescue floppy from the current version
of boot-floppies (3.0.18). This new version already uses kernel 2.4.16, so
the kernel on the installation disks tries to load the loopback module for
the newer kernel which fails.

Please retry the installation with the installation set from
http://people.debian.org/~sgybas/deb390/boot-floppies/ (either vm or lpar)
and then again choose the current version of the rescue floppy. Let me know
if you have problems with this setup.
