Fwd: Adding a .deb for Edit/msedit.

Hello debian-rust@lists.debian.org,

Microsoft recently released an easy to use console text editor written in Rust licensed as MIT. I think it would be a great option for new Linux users.

https://github.com/microsoft/edit

Microsoft Edit works with or without a mouse and is optimized for large files. And it has the same key bindings and interface modality as your web browser's text editor. It also still knows about code pages, line endings, regular expressions and tab settings.

So I went and checked with the Edit team at Microsoft and they said they would be cool with me setting up a Debian package for it. (There is already an Ubuntu Snap you can try if you have snapd.)

And I looked over the Debian Rust Team packaging guide and it looks like I can handle it. I would be happy to maintain the package.

The executable name "edit" is already taken by the mailcap package, but Microsoft would appreciate being made an alternative for that name. I am fine with calling the package "edit" as Microsoft recommends or "msedit" as they request for an alternative name. Let me know what you think.

Thanks!
