Yeah, the lightest orange shade in [1]'s gradient (#f49600) against
Debian's darker red (#a80030) is 3.40 [2], not far from Debian's lighter
red against black. We can do even better -- e.g. 4.62 with #ffba70 [3].
I think there should be ways to pull off a slightly more orangeish tint
without spoiling contrast too much if we want to. I don't think *which*
orange matters as much as it should be *some* orange to echo Rust. As
for which orange, it's probably better left to the artist so it doesn't
look like crap like the matches I sent :-) The current palette is on a
very good track IMO, when I say "slightly" I really mean it!
FWIW, I think we could also have two versions, darker red on light
orange and lighter red (like #D50032) on black.
