Troubles with make modules_install

Здравствуйте, 
пытаюсь пересобрать ядро.


Debian sarge 3.1, ядро 2.6.8.

make config и make all выполнились успешно. 

Но make modules_install  сердито  выплюнул сообщение: 

ln: when making multiple links, last argument must be a directory
make: *** [_modinst_] Error 1


Запустил make mrproper, изменил EXTRAVERSION в Makefile и повторил заново всю процедуру.
Увы, и на этот раз с аналогичным результатом.



make -d modules_install  пишет следующее:

 File `modules_install' does not exist.
  Considering target file `_modinst_'.
   File `_modinst_' does not exist.
   Finished prerequisites of target file `_modinst_'.
  Must remake target `_modinst_'.
