Hey, Thanks to Cedric, he did drop d/compat and bumped debhelper-comat (=12) in gem2deb for templates in this commit[1] :D But the autopkgtest was failing because it was looking for d/compat file. I patched the same, present in a commit in MR#5[2]. Also, the same MR (#5), adds a d/upstream/metadata in the templates for the new packages (as discussed in the BoF). Along with that, it bumps the Standards-Version and debhlper-compat of the package. Overall, it now builds fine and the autopkgtest is green and happy. Requesting you to check MR #5, build, merge, and upload the same.
