Instead of overriding the use of rubygems in lib/riemann.rb, create a
patch to remove the 'require "rubygems"' together with the LOAD_PATH
modification a couple of lines above.

Use autopkgtest-pkg-ruby for the Testsuite field in debian/control

In debian/copyright, replace MIT with Expat to avoid confusion with
other versions of the MIT license. Add upstream email
(<aphyr@aphyr.com>).

Lintian gives me a
I: ruby-riemann-client: description-synopsis-might-not-be-phrased-properly
because of the full stop at the end of the line. Also the first "phrase"
of the long description is not a full sentence (there is no verb).
