Helmut covered everything, but I want to add a minor note. Debugging sbuild failures is infinitely easier by calling sbuild --anything-failed-commands '%s' .... This drops you into an interactive shell if anything fails, which makes it easy to look around to quickly figure out the cause of the failure.
