Hi,
So, tor (0.4.7.x) in stable is EOL upstream, and the set of directory
authorities[dirauth] has changed somewhat since the Tor in stable has
been last updated.
As such, I would like to either update or remove tor in stable.
I see the following options:
(1) Update Tor in stable to the currently released Tor stable version,
0.4.8.12. I have been building backports for current Tor releases for
a long time and generally Tor behaves well on stable.
(2) Keep the current Tor version (0.4.7.16-1) in stable, but update the
list of directory authorities in a 0.4.7.16-2 upload. This involves
changing a few lines in the default config [dirauths-update].
(3) Remove Tor from stable as the version is EOL.
My preference is for (1). What say you?
Cheers,
weasel
dirauth: The tor directory authorities are a set of 7-9 servers
whose keys the list of all the tor relays, the "consensus".
Tor clients need a consensus signed by a majority of dirauths they know
about to work.
dirauths-update:
Basically replace
https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/blob/tor-0.4.7.16/src/app/config/auth_dirs.inc?ref_type=tags
with
https://gitlab.torproject.org/tpo/core/tor/-/blob/tor-0.4.8.12/src/app/config/auth_dirs.inc?ref_type=tags
