Could you prepare a debdiff stripping tests (assuming those are not influencing the build itself), stripping the copyright line changes and dropping the changed png files? It seems this might be reviewable when that's done.
the package itself is just a leaf package and used for a very specific purpose only which is providing the official ID card authentication app of the German government, so I think the risk conveyed by this update is rather low.
Well, in the hard freeze we're looking for *targeted* fixes [1]. PaulPS: you could consider if an (non-superficial) autopkgtest is possible/reasonable
