How firm are you on wanting us to proceed with Option 2 for this? The big downside to this is that we would have to maintain a downstream soname version essentially forever. Aside from this diversion from upstream, we'd have to rely on a upstream's unmaintained and Python 2-only build tool, Bakefile.

Would Option 1, which was "Rebuild wxWidgets and then binNMU all packages that link with libwx_gtk3u_gl library (about a dozen packages)." be acceptable? We could also add appropriate "Breaks" to the library package containing the gl library.
