#928516 logrotate: Upgrading from stretch breaks logrotate if logrotate.conf was modified

Hi,

bug #928516 reports an issue when upgrading logrotate from stretch to
buster with a modified main configuration file (/etc/logrotate.conf).

Since the version in buster the configuration snippets for
/var/log/(u|w)tmp have their own sub-configuration files in
/etc/logrotate.d . So when an administrator has modified the main
file, there are now two configurations for these logfiles, causing
logrotate to error out (/etc/logrotate.conf:18 duplicate log entry for
/var/log/wtmp).

What is the preferred management?
Should I add a note to the NEWS file and upload to stable or request
an addition to the release notes (section 5.3)?

Best regards,
