So, cdftools and flexpart work fine with netcdf built with gfortran-4.9.
So a binNMU to build netcdf first and then cdftools and flexpart should
be sufficient.
(Note: I have another package flextra, stuck in NEW, similar to
flexpart, ie. a gfortran code
depending on netcdf. )

So I would suggest continuing with a binNMU. The new 4.3 version of
netcdf will take some
reorganisation of the packaging and this transition should proceed
quickly first.
