Re: [Martin Pettau] Help on Debian package license issues

I have just glanced at the differences between
6.0.5 and 6.0.6 (6.0.5 is what is currently in debian stable.)

There is not only the new font, there are some source/build code
changes to support the new font. These changes are mixed in with
general changes to support new 6.0.6 features.

In my opinion, if someone, not the author of this code, such as
myself, were to attempt to seperate out the font changes from the
other changes, in the process of making a dsfg package, the probablity
of error, leading to a bug, in the seperation process, would be
greater than the probablity that there is a bug in the code introduced
by 6.0.6 over 6.0.5.

In view of this, is at not possible to get a waver from debian, allowing
us to just install 6.0.6 unmodified?

That would I think be up to the Release managers however I'm going to go out on a limb and predict they will not approve. Nevertheless, I've cc'ed the debian-release list on this message just in case they are feeling merciful.

[debian-release: in case you are not aware, the issue is that the maitreya package in stable contains a copyright-violating font which needs to be replaced.]

Personally I think we should be able to isolate just the font-related changes without too much trouble. If you do not feel up to the task, I'll take a look tomorrow.
