I've tested the updated package and can confirm it does fix the RC bug.
I'm not entirely competent to review the actual code changes,
but they are small patches, almost two years-old from upstream Git.
They look minimal, self-contained and to the point (and basically
copy'n'paste'n'adapted of similar code blocks for other options,
adapted to support the legacy boot option.)
So I guess this shoud be good enough for Wheezy.
