Please unblock package live-build

The version in wheezy was at alpha stage of development. We have, at
long last, a final release which is the only supportable version for the
lifetime of wheezy.

I have attached a cleaned up diff which lists at the top the specific
cleanups performed to make review easier.

Closing this duplicate of #700800. I had thought my request was dropped
on the basis of size, so resent with the attachment xz-compressed (I did
four requests back to back and #700800 didn't arrive until long after I
received acknowledgements for the others).
