Probably memories of the dozens of patches sent to fix makefiles which
contained things like “[ -f Makefile ] && $(MAKE) clean” instead of
“[ ! -f Makefile ] || $(MAKE) clean”.

(in addition to sending mails past silly-o'clock…)
