britney removed konq-plugins from testing on March 13: http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/konq-plugins/news/20120313T163913Z.html

This followed its automatic removal from unstable on March 12: http://ftp-master.debian.org/removals.txt

Removed the following packages from unstable:

konq-plugins |  4:4.6.1-1 | source

------------------- Reason -------------------
[auto-cruft] obsolete source package
----------------------------------------------
=========================================================================

konq-plugins is indeed obsoleted in unstable by kde-baseapps 4:4.7.4-2 (although I'm not sure what happened to konq-plugins-l10n): http://packages.qa.debian.org/k/kde-baseapps/news/20111205T164908Z.html
* Add konq-plugins package.

So it appears that auto-cruft did the right thing here. However, kde-baseapps hasn't migrated to testing yet, so the konq-plugins source package is not obsolete *in testing*. Removing it from testing resulted in the konq-plugins binary package (a leaf package) missing from testing.

If britney is simply removing source packages removed from unstable from testing, there is clearly a problem. An alternative would be to exclude auto-crufted packages from britney's removal attempts. I guess another auto-cruft would have to be run on testing.

There's no way for britney to know why a source package was removed from
unstable. If it doesn't have rdeps, it'll get removed from testing as
well. That should only result in temporary removals for cases like the
one you mentioned, and that one's already fixed now, so I'm closing this
bug.

Julien
