Bug#603683: unblock: qemu-kvm/0.12.5+dfsg-5

Package: release.debian.org
Severity: normal
User: release.debian.org@packages.debian.org
Usertags: unblock

Please consider unblocking package qemu-kvm.

The main reason for this unblock request is to resolve a serious bug
which is present in all prior versions including the one currently in
squeeze -- #603219. I discovered and fixed it myself, but it's still
a violation of DFSG: shipping a blob without compiling it from source
while all the build-depends for that are in place.

The fix for #603219 is a bit large, just because it removes the file
in question (a hex dump of the compiler-generated dsdt acpi table),
the other changes around are all pretty small, involving adding
(also missing) rule to rebuild it before use and cleaning it up
in clean. So even if the change between 0.12.5+dfsg-4 and -5 is
large, the most part of it is the deletion of the blob.

There are a few other bugfixes went into 0.12.5+dfsg-5, especially
the long-standing #588899 which were finally fixed for good, --
it affects many people since libvirt (which is used to manage virtual
machines by most people) by default enables sound, which triggers it,
and a few less important but still significant fixes - #603223
(SIGSEGV when using (virtual) SCSI adaptor) and a fix for non-reported
bug - non-functional ACPI (virtual) buttons for some guests.

The change between previous 0.12.5+dfsg-4 and this -5 releases
contains only bug fixes, all code fixes were cherry-picked from
upstream (commit IDs are indicated in the patches) and tested
locally as much as possible.

Functionality-wise, the most important to me is the fix for #588899,
since it is very visible and affects many people. Even if this bug
is marked as "normal", while the DFSG violation I found (#603219) is
serious.

Here's the complete changelog entry:

qemu-kvm (0.12.5+dfsg-5) unstable; urgency=low

  [ Michael Tokarev ]
  * scsi:-Dequeue-requests-before-invoking-completion-callback.diff
    fix SIGSEGV when using lsil scsi emulation, from upstream
    (closes: #603223)
  * seabios-mark-irq9-active-high-in-DSDT.diff - fix non-working
    acpi buttons (system_powerdown) for FreeBSD and other guests.
  * don't ship roms/seabios/src/acpi-dsdt.hex which is a generated file
    (this ensures it gets rebuilt properly after previous patch too),
    and fix their makefile to properly state deps from it (closes: #603219)
  * two patches from upstream git to fix alsa audio issues:
    - fix-100%-CPU-load-when-idle-with-ALSA.diff
    - issue-snd_pcm_start-when-capturing-audio.diff
    (closes: #588899)
