Unfortunately, it's a bit late for such big rewrite. Some files have
been (almost or entirely) rewritten from scratch and there were some new
features introduced. This may introduce regressions. At this point of
the cycle, I don't think it's a good thing to include such an update
(even if it fixes serious problems).
Given that shutdown-qapps wasn't included in previous releases and a
backported fix seems not possible, maybe it's worth considering whether
we really want to include the package in a stable release at the moment.
