My interpretation is that Phil mentioned he would remove the freeze exception for deborphan *because* you sent your intent to orphan the package. I personnally think that a reasonable compromise would be to grant you a freeze exception for a "reasonable" delay allowing you to work on the new code and propose these changes here. I have good expectations this would be accepted by the RM.
