A new upstream release that provides versionned symbols has been released
(6b1) and I have prepared the Debian packages. This release has an updated
build system which is already a big improvement.

Gentoo and Arch have moved to libjpeg8 but they are source distributions, so
they handle ABI breakage more easily. Mandriva has already moved to libjpeg8
and did not had much trouble with it (though the versionned symbols clash
caused chromium upstream binary to crash).
Also I found out that Adobe flash plugin is not linked (dynamically) with
libjpeg, so there is probably not much binary-only plugins dynamically linked
against non-symbols versionned libjpeg62 in use.

Cheers,
