It's already entangled with unixodbc, so adding another soname change to this pile at the same time doesn't seem like the way to go. I'm not a RM, though, so if they tell you otherwise feel free to ignore me :) Also, how bad would it be to stay with gdal 1.6 for squeeze, if this transition isn't possible before the freeze?
