In any case, it sounds like the issue is simply that the version of
the Linux kernel in lenny is too old to support the ethernet device,
it sounds like the CPU works fine:

This was the second result in google for "Debian Nehalem".

According to that blog post, you could first install the base system
using a CD image, then download a newer kernel (from backports.org or
elsewhere) on another machine and transfer it via a USB key or ISO
image via IPMI and then install it on the server and reboot into it.
