first, let me apologize that Debian people sent you around asking for
stuff instead doing that for you.

Unfortunately, the new version includes too many changes that might have
unexpected / undesired side-effects to put it into Debian shortly before
the release.
Regarding the bug about the excessive dependencies that you are
concerned about, I will see to getting this fixed for lenny. Thanks for
bringing that bug to our attention.
