I don't see how this is relevant to detect in which runlevels avahi
should be started. My basic idea:
name="avahi";
start="";
stop="";
for i in `seq 0 9` "S"; do
if [ -e /etc/rc${i}.d/S??${name} ]; then
start="$start $i";
elif [ -e /etc/rc${i}.d/K??${name} ]; then
stop="$stop $i";
fi;
done;
echo "Start: $start";
echo "Stop: $stop"
