SRMs: Possible to get a fix for viewcvs in Etch so it works with Etch cvs?

Dear SRMs,

Following up to
http://blog.zobel.ftbfs.de/debian/packages-considered-for-40r1
(and repeating my comment from there so the whole stable release team
will see it):

Is there any chance to get in a fix for #422141, in which the viewcvs
and cvs packages in Etch don’t play well together, into Etch 4.0r1?

I don’t see a patch anywhere in the bug log, but since the problem is
caused by a single extra line in CVS’ version control files, I can’t
imagine it is hard to fix.

I understand this fix may not be a high priority without a patch, and if
I have time in the future (not necessarily a safe assumption) I will
endeavor to provide one.
