If you're going to document it, don't forget to mention that in your repair
rescue boot you have to remove the stick quickly after initrd.gz is loaded
but before Linux has a chance to detect it.

If we're going that way, I would strongly recommend NOT to link the USB
images from the download pages.  They'll just make Debian look broken...
