My top recommendations:

Expat (a.k.a. MIT) http://www.jclark.com/xml/copying.txt
2-clause BSD http://www.gnu.org/licenses/info/BSD_2Clause.html

GNU GPL v2 http://www.fsf.org/licenses/gpl.html

So

| (http://www.gnu.org/licenses/info/BSD_2Clause.html) should be fine,
| but the lack of "copyleft" might be disliked by the author: if this
| is the case, you could recommend the GNU GPL v2.

The rest of the announcement seems good.
