Today libcurl 7.61.0 was released, which should fix most problems. Once libcurl4-openssl-dev is updated in Debian, could you confirm that this fixes the r-cran-curl crash?

FYI there are still a few small issues with http/2 but I don't think we get hit by those in the r-cran-curl unit tests. The libcurl maintainer has a footnote in his release notes that he plans on a patch release as soon as these bugs are fixed: https://daniel.haxx.se/blog/2018/07/11/curl-7-61-0/
