Package: shiboken2
Version: 5.15.0-5+b1
Severity: important

Dear Maintainer,

FreeCAD (v18.4 - the default) failed to build (despite all build-dep
being installed) complaining, that shiboken2 was build with python3.9,
while found python has version 3.8.

I've tried to build shiboken2 on the very same system, and shiboken2
have chosen to be build with python3.9 despite the fact, that python3
was linked to python3.8. This prevents FreeCAD-18.4 from being build.

Both python3.8 and python3.9 are currently installes on the system.

I tried to remove python3.8, so that FreeCAD-18.4 could pick version 3.9
for the build ... but numerous other packages depend on python3.8

So I've manually changed the link python3 from python3.8 to python3.9.
This made FreeCAD-18.4 build correctly. But no manual intervention
should be required for debian-source to get build correctly.

I'm not a python programmer, and I don't know if shiboken2 could be
compiled with python3.8; but if it can, this should be fixed by
changeing the way shiboken2 build picks its python version. It should
select the one, that is current system default.

Still, since both python3.8 and python3.9 can be installed on a system
at the same time, one may expect, that there are two versions of
shiboken2 available: each one build with each of the python version.

BTW: I'm assuming, FreeCAD-18.4 mainteiners did made veryfication of
python minor version purposely - apparently it does matter there.

Hi Rafal,

Sorry no one followed up on your bug :-( I found it while triaging
shiboken2 bugs for a related issue: #1008849

Python 3.10 is now the default Python in bookworm (Debian 12), so I'm
closing this bug as no longer relevant.

Best,
Nicholas
