The commit in question is 82806a2. I would encourage you to revert that commit---I currently have a comprehensive fix [2] that begins with the reversion of that commit, and addresses the feature request that motivated 82806a2 originally. Since that represents a significant change, I would understand if you decided not to include the rest of that MR as a patch even after it is merged.
