Bug#809964: all my passwords are gone

Hi there,

originally I've posted this as a follow up to 
#863844, however #809964 seems to be the more appropriate place.

Here goes the same comment as in 863844, slightly adapted:

* before upgrading from jessie to stretch I've checked the release notes
  there seems to be no mention of kwallet in the notes
* then I've upgraded from jessie to stretch
* when I start kwalletmanager it comes up empty
  * all my passwords seem to be gone
* when I select File -> Import a wallet, nothing happens, no dialog shows up
* when I select File -> Import XML, nothing happens, no dialog shows up

I think this bug report should have severity critical as people will 
loose (access?) to all of their passwords, unless the do an export before 
the upgrade. Severity critical would have prevented kwalletmanager from 
entering stretch, which would have been the right thing IMO.

Also the release notes should warn about this problem and suggest to export the 
passwords before upgrading.

And there should be a NEWS file coming with kwalletmanger warning about this 
and strongly suggesting an export.

At this point I do not know how to recover the passwords from kwallet. Looks 
like 100% data loss at this point.

I'll proceed now and will set the severity of this bug to critical.

Suggestions for recovery procedures for the passwords are wellcome.

PS: By some divine intuition I did export the passwords from kwallet
    before the jessie -> stretch upgrade.
