Package: kimageformat-plugins
Version: 5.37.0-2
Severity: normal

According to `apt-cache rdepends kimageformat-plugins`, the only package that depends on this package as of this writing is libkf5archive5, and even that's only to introduce Breaks on older versions. The thing is, this package is actually quite useful to have as it provides (among other things) plugins to process XCF, PSD, Krita, and OpenRaster images.

I completely accidentally came across the existence of this package in sid this evening after a long time assuming that upstream had simply stopped providing support for XCF image previews in Dolphin for one reason or another -- especially since there is a separate unrelated thumbnailer for Krita and OpenRaster imagea, and I couldn't find any information pertaining to a GIMP thumbnailer or the lack thereof on Web. I found this issue particularly disappointing back when I first switched to stretch from jessie, since I use Dolphin and the great majority of the stuff I work with is in the GIMP XCF format.

Installing this package and ensuring the generic image thumbnailer ("Images (GIF, PNG, BMP, ...)" in Settings -> General -> Previews in Dolphin) is enabled allows Dolphin to generate thumbnails for XCF images as expected. Ideally, some other package (I don't know which one, unfortunately) should Recommend or Suggest this one.

I don't have access to a stretch system to test right now, but I believe this issue also applies there.
