Bug#886733: okular fails to render some text

Hi,

I am also heavily affected by this bug. To illustrate it I made a short
screencast, comparing the effects in evince and okular:

https://vimeo.com/250849958/

Unfortunately I cannot confirm that (re)installing cm-super does solve
the problem for newly generated pdfs.

I use \usepackage{lmodern} as a workarround.

However, I see the main problem with old PDFs, which cannot simply be
recompiled. And as reading PDFs is an essential part of jobs in academia
and percentage of Debian users in academia is probably far above average
I think it would by a pity if we have to live without a solution or a
workaround for long.

Some additional notes:

If I open affected PDF-Files in xpdf I get lots of Messages like this

"Syntax Error (204): Missing or bad Type3 CharProc entry"

PDFs generated by the python plotting library for matplotlib are also
affected. So not only LaTeX-related.

Questions: is there a reasonable way to change the library okular uses?
I.e. compiling poppler by myself or undo the update?

Why is evince not affected? AFAK it also uses poppler?

Currently this bug is associated with package okular.
Shouldn't it be associated with some poppler-package? If so, with which one?

Best,
Carsten (another one)
