One more question: since konsole 16.12.3 is already available as a bugfix release, why not upgrade to 16.12.3 instead of backporting bunches of upstream patches? Such upgrade should be suitable for stable release.
Good question, partly because the debdiff between upstream releases tend to be in the order of the MBs, while the patches are KBs, this is due to automatic po updates, so it should be easier for the release team to review the changes. And partly because 16.12 is not an LTS release.
On the practical side of things, we can always bump the version, so we can do some test in experimental and claim that we want half of the patches applied for stretch or that we want 16.12.3 for stretch with the non released patches on top. But uploading a 16.12.3 and then decide that we want 16.12.0 back is uglier.
In the end, we need the feedback about the uploaded version and decide what to do next.
