  * What led up to the situation?
plasma-desktop crashes everytime during system startup. It crashes also when
plasma-desktop is tried to start for instance from konsole

Most probably this problem gets solved during the next weeks - in the meantime you could try to build kde-workspace yourself (in case you have enough time and diskspace: apt-get source kde-workspace ; apt-get build-dep kde-workspace; cd kde-workspace ; dpkg-buildpackage -b) ------------------------
The KDE ecosystem is highly based on plugins interconnecting different internal parts of itself, this sometimes creates build order issues that are not always easy to find, and not reproducible when we are testing the build before uploading. So issues like this one show up from time to time. This has been improved in the builds for frameworks and plasma, but they might still show up when the change is external.
