Is there an ETA when the proper behaviour will be restored (I understand an upload has to happen for this)?
This is fixed with the sddm-theme-breeze that's currently in experimental, we have requested the release team to include this change (among others fixes in plasma-workspace 5.8.6) in stretch, and we haven't received an answer yet. To be fair, the changes in plasma-workspace might be too large for a proper review, and while this is a user facing issue, it's not really of the severity required. So it might be that we have 5.8.6 in stretch sometime soon, or that we have to backport this change to 5.8.4, or that we would only be able to fix this issue for buster.
